Adult ADHD Evaluation in Orange County and Mission Viejo

Trouble focusing, staying organized, or finishing what you start can have many causes. A careful, unhurried ADHD evaluation helps you understand what's really going on and what to do next. At Integrative Psychiatry & Wellness (IPW Health), we offer adult ADHD evaluations in person in Mission Viejo, across Orange County, and by telehealth in California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado.

Who an ADHD evaluation is for

An evaluation may be a good fit if you are an adult who:

  • Has always wondered whether ADHD explains lifelong struggles with focus, time, or follow-through
  • Was diagnosed as a child and wants an updated assessment as an adult
  • Is finding it harder to keep up at work, in school, or at home
  • Needs documentation to support workplace or academic accommodations
  • Wants to sort out whether attention problems may be related to anxiety, mood, sleep, stress, or hormonal changes such as perimenopause

Our evaluation process

  1. Schedule your visit. Book online or call us. New-patient appointments are often available the same week.
  2. Complete intake questionnaires. Before or during your first visit, you'll fill out forms about your current symptoms and history. These may include standardized ADHD rating scales.
  3. Clinical interview. Your provider will talk with you about your childhood, current challenges, work or school, relationships, health history, and other conditions that can look like ADHD.
  4. Input from someone who knows you, if helpful. Your provider may ask whether a partner, parent, or close friend can share their observations. This is always with your permission.
  5. Review your results. Your provider will go over the findings with you, answer your questions, and talk through next steps.

Timeline

  • Getting started: New-patient appointments are often available the same week you reach out.
  • The evaluation: The number of visits depends on your history and needs. Your provider will explain what to expect at your first visit.
  • Your written results: Your provider will let you know when to expect your written summary after your evaluation is complete.

What you get

  • A clear answer. A diagnostic impression based on a thorough review of your history and symptoms.
  • Written results. A summary of the evaluation and findings that you can keep and share with other providers if you choose.
  • Documentation for accommodations. When clinically appropriate, a letter or forms to support workplace or academic accommodations.
  • Personalized recommendations. Practical next steps, which may include therapy, skill-building strategies, accommodations, follow-up care, or referrals.

An evaluation is about understanding, not labeling. It doesn't guarantee a particular diagnosis. Whatever the results show, you'll leave with a clearer picture and a plan.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an ADHD evaluation take?

The number of visits depends on your history and needs. Your provider will explain how many visits your evaluation needs and when to expect your written results. New-patient appointments are often available the same week you call.

Can I do my ADHD evaluation by telehealth?

Yes. Evaluations are available by secure video for adults located in California, Oregon, Washington, or Colorado at the time of each visit, or in person at our Mission Viejo office.

Will I get documentation for work or school?

When clinically appropriate, we can provide written documentation to support requests for workplace or academic accommodations. Let us know at the start what you need it for and any forms your employer or school requires.

What if my results don't point to ADHD?

That's still useful information. Focus and attention problems can be related to many things, such as anxiety, depression, sleep, stress, or hormonal changes. Your provider will explain what the evaluation found and talk with you about next steps.

Does insurance cover an ADHD evaluation?

We are in-network with Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Cigna, Medicare, Optum, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC). Coverage depends on your plan, so we recommend checking your benefits. If you prefer to pay out of pocket, please see current self-pay rates.

How should I prepare?

It helps to think about when your challenges started and how they show up at work, school, and home. If you have old report cards or past evaluations, bring them. You may also want to ask a partner, parent, or close friend for their observations.
