Psychiatric Evaluations and Therapy for Laguna Hills

Laguna Hills sits right across the I-5 from Mission Viejo, so for many residents our office is only a few minutes away. Whether you live on the trails of Nellie Gail Ranch, in the neighborhoods off Alicia and Moulton Parkways near the Community Center & Sports Complex, or in a condo near the freeway and the old Laguna Hills Mall site, getting support for anxiety, depression, grief or memory and focus worries shouldn’t take months. Integrative Psychiatry & Wellness (IPW Health) offers same-week appointments for new patients, in person or by secure video.

We’re at 27201 Puerta Real, Suite 300, in Mission Viejo, off Crown Valley Parkway. From Laguna Hills City Hall on El Toro Road, it’s about 6 miles: take the I-5 south, exit at Crown Valley Parkway and head east to Puerta Real. From the Community Center on Alicia Parkway, it’s a similar drive via the I-5. In light traffic that’s typically 10 to 15 minutes. If you know the area around MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center, we’re just a few freeway exits south.

Start with a thorough psychiatric evaluation

A psychiatric evaluation is a structured conversation about what you’re experiencing, how long it has been going on, your medical history and what you want to change. It’s often the right first step when symptoms don’t fit a neat label, such as a low mood that started after a health scare, anxiety that showed up in retirement or sleep that has fallen apart. You’ll leave with a working diagnosis, a plan and an idea of what follow-up looks like. When clinically appropriate, that plan may include medication management with regular check-ins.

Because our founder is also a board-certified family nurse practitioner, we pay attention to the physical side as well: thyroid function, iron levels, blood sugar, sleep and the effects of other medical conditions or treatments you may already be receiving. We’re glad to coordinate with your primary care provider if you’d like us to.

Therapy for loss, change and stress

Our licensed therapists work with California clients by secure video, which helps if driving is tiring or you’re caring for someone at home. Grief counseling gives you space to work through the loss of a spouse, parent, friend or pet at your own pace. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) offers practical tools for worry, panic and depression, and exposure and response prevention (ERP) is a focused therapy for OCD. Couples therapy is offered in person at our office and by telehealth. Read more about therapy at IPW Health.

Medicare and in-person care

We’re in network with Medicare as well as major commercial plans, which matters for many Laguna Hills and nearby Laguna Woods residents. In-person psychiatric visits at the Mission Viejo office are with our founder, Shahrzad (Shery) Shadmani, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C, on Mondays, and in-person therapy, including couples therapy, is offered there on Saturdays. Psychiatric nurse practitioners Merrick Tsai and Beverly Glavan see patients by secure telehealth, and telehealth visits are available throughout the week. If you’re not comfortable with video, that’s fine: tell us when you call and we’ll set up an in-person visit. If you’d like to try telehealth, our guide to your first telehealth appointment walks through what to expect.

Services for Laguna Hills patients

Visits are available in English and Farsi. If you’d like therapy in Farsi, see our Farsi-speaking therapist page. Psychiatric telehealth covers California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado, so family members in those states can be seen too; therapy is for clients located in California. We also see patients from Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo and Irvine.

Insurance and cost: We are in network with Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare, Optum and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage varies by plan, so we verify your benefits before your first visit. Self-pay is available too: a psychiatric evaluation is $350, a follow-up visit is $200, and therapy sessions range from $140 to $250. Self-pay patients receive a Good Faith Estimate before the first visit. See plans and pricing.
